Seeking Alpha Premium vs Alpha Picks confuses a lot of people because both come from the same company and both use the same quant system. The difference is simple once you see it: Premium is a research platform you use to make your own decisions, while Alpha Picks is a model portfolio that tells you what to buy, with two new picks each month.

This guide explains what each one includes, what it costs, how the bundle works and which one fits which kind of investor. Prices come from Seeking Alpha's own help center and offer pages.

What Premium Is

Premium is Seeking Alpha's main subscription for self-directed investors. It unlocks unlimited premium articles and earnings call transcripts with audio, Quant Ratings that score stocks against sector peers on more than 100 metrics, and factor grades from A+ to F for Value, Growth, Profitability, Momentum and EPS Revisions. You also get dividend scores, earnings and dividend forecast visuals, peer comparisons and ten years of downloadable financials. For a full walkthrough, see our Seeking Alpha Premium review.

With Premium, nothing tells you what to buy. You get the tools, and you make the calls.

What Alpha Picks Is

Alpha Picks is a curated portfolio. Seeking Alpha selects two stocks a month from those carrying a Strong Buy quant rating, with new picks published around the 1st and 15th. Subscribers see the full portfolio, receive Hold and Sell alerts when positions change, and can join members-only webinars.

Seeking Alpha reports that the Alpha Picks portfolio returned +356.93% against +106.24% for the S&P 500 from July 1, 2022 to October 9, 2026. That is the company's own figure for a notional portfolio, with a methodology it describes on its site, so treat it as a vendor claim and remember that past performance does not guarantee future results. Our Alpha Picks review covers the method in more detail.

Seeking Alpha Premium vs Alpha Picks on Price

Do You Need Premium to Use Alpha Picks?

No. They are separate subscriptions and Alpha Picks can be bought on its own. However, many subscribers find the two work well together: Alpha Picks gives you the idea, and Premium lets you read the analysis, check the factor grades and understand why the stock was picked. Without Premium, you are following picks with less context.

Which Investor Fits Which Plan

The choice is mainly about how much work you want to do.

Choose Premium if you enjoy researching, already have ideas of your own, hold dividend stocks you want to monitor, or want to check tips from other sources. Premium is also the right first step if you are new to Seeking Alpha and want to understand how its ratings work before trusting a picks service.

Choose Alpha Picks if you want a short list of quant-selected ideas and clear Hold and Sell signals, and you are comfortable following a systematic process. It suits busy investors who want structure and do not want to build a watchlist from scratch.

Choose the bundle if you want both the picks and the ability to dig into them, and you want the $80 first-year saving.

Common Misunderstandings

"Premium includes Alpha Picks." It does not. Premium gives you Quant Ratings on thousands of stocks, but the curated Alpha Picks portfolio and its alerts are a separate product.

"Alpha Picks is just a list of Strong Buy stocks." Every Premium user can see which stocks are rated Strong Buy. Alpha Picks narrows that universe to two selections a month, manages the portfolio over time and tells you when to hold or sell.

"Alpha Picks replaces research." It reduces it, but most investors still want to understand what they own. That is where Premium helps.

Seeking Alpha Premium vs Alpha Picks vs PRO

Seeking Alpha also sells PRO, its top tier, listed at $2,400 a year and aimed at professional investors. PRO includes everything in Premium plus features such as top ideas, short ideas and coverage of stocks without Wall Street analysts. For most individual investors, the realistic choice is between Premium, Alpha Picks or the bundle. See Seeking Alpha Premium vs Pro for that comparison.

Seeking Alpha Premium vs Alpha Picks: Our Verdict

If you can only buy one, most investors should start with Premium. It is cheaper, it has a free trial, and it teaches you how Seeking Alpha's quant system thinks, which is the same system that powers Alpha Picks. If after a few months you want curated ideas and portfolio guidance, add Alpha Picks or switch to the bundle.

If you already know you want done-for-you ideas and will not use research tools, Alpha Picks on its own is the more direct fit. Read our bundle discount guide if you are leaning toward both.

How We Researched This Page

We built this comparison from each company's own pricing, plan and help pages, checked in October 2026. Seeking Alpha figures (Premium $299 list, $269 first year through our link, 7-day free trial for new subscribers, Alpha Picks $499 list with $449 shown via our offer link as of Oct 2026, bundle $718 first year, PRO $2,400 list) come from Seeking Alpha's offer pages and help center. Where a competitor's page could not be read directly, we say so and either describe the feature in general terms or link to the official page rather than guess. Performance figures quoted by any vendor are that vendor's own claims, not independent audits. Prices and features change, so always confirm the final price at checkout before you subscribe.
