Alpha Picks performance is the main reason the service has become Seeking Alpha's most talked-about product. According to Seeking Alpha, the Alpha Picks portfolio returned +356.93% from its launch on July 1, 2022 through October 9, 2026, compared with +106.24% for the S&P 500 over the same period. This page explains what that figure represents, what drives it and what it does not tell you.

Where the Number Comes From

The figures are published by Seeking Alpha, not by an independent auditor. They cover the full Alpha Picks portfolio since inception, including closed positions. Because Seeking Alpha reports them, treat them as the company's claim: credible enough to take seriously, but not independently verified. Past performance does not guarantee future results.

What Drives the Results

Alpha Picks is built on the Quant system. Seeking Alpha's help center lists the selection criteria:

Two stocks are added each month, one on the first trading day and one on or after the 15th. Members receive Hold and Sell alerts when ratings shift. See how Alpha Picks works.

Important Caveats

Concentration

Alpha Picks returns depend on a relatively small number of holdings. A handful of large winners can account for much of the gain, which also means results can swing more than an index.

Timing your entry

The portfolio's return since 2022 is not what a subscriber who joins today will earn. Your outcome depends on which picks you buy, when and in what size.

Following every pick

The reported return assumes the portfolio's own entries, exits and sizing. Subscribers who skip picks, buy late or size differently will see different results.

Market regime

The period from mid-2022 included a bear market low and a strong recovery. A different market environment could favour different factors.

Picks plus the research behind them

The Premium + Alpha Picks bundle is $718 for the first year (vs $798 separately) per Seeking Alpha.

How Alpha Picks Compares

Against the S&P 500, the reported outperformance is large. Against other stock-picking services, comparisons are harder because each publishes results differently. Motley Fool Stock Advisor, for example, reports its own long-run record using its own method. See Alpha Picks vs Motley Fool Stock Advisor.

Is the Performance Worth $449–$499 a Year?

Consider the fee against the money you will put to work. On a $10,000 stock allocation, $449 is about 4.5% of capital in year one, a hurdle the picks must beat before you gain anything. On $100,000, it is 0.45%. The bigger your allocation, the easier the maths. Our is Alpha Picks worth it page covers this in depth.

How to Track It Yourself

Subscribers can see the full portfolio, including current and past picks. If you join, record your own entry prices and compare your results with the S&P 500 over the same dates. That is the only performance number that truly matters to you.

Reading Performance Updates as a Member

Subscribers receive regular performance updates. When you read them, look beyond the headline return: how many picks are currently ahead of the S&P 500 since their entry date, how large the biggest winners are relative to the rest, and how closed positions performed. A portfolio where most picks contribute is more robust than one carried by two outliers. Seeking Alpha shows the full portfolio, so you can do this analysis yourself.

Performance and Taxes

Reported returns ignore taxes. Selling a pick after a Sell alert in a taxable account may trigger capital gains, which reduces what you keep. Investors holding picks in tax-advantaged accounts avoid that drag, which is one reason some members run Alpha Picks inside a retirement account.

Our Take

Alpha Picks performance, as reported by Seeking Alpha, is strong: roughly three and a half times the S&P 500's gain over the same window. The number is credible enough to take seriously because it comes from a forward-running portfolio with published rules, but it is still company-reported, concentrated and period-specific. If you join, judge the service on your own entries and your own sizing, and compare against an index fund you could have bought instead.

How We Researched This Page

We built this comparison from each company's own pricing, plan and help pages, checked in October 2026. Seeking Alpha figures (Premium $299 list, $269 first year through our link, 7-day free trial for new subscribers, Alpha Picks $499 list with $449 shown via our offer link as of Oct 2026, bundle $718 first year, PRO $2,400 list) come from Seeking Alpha's offer pages and help center. Where a competitor's page could not be read directly, we say so and either describe the feature in general terms or link to the official page rather than guess. Performance figures quoted by any vendor are that vendor's own claims, not independent audits. Prices and features change, so always confirm the final price at checkout before you subscribe.
